Ammo Question:

Post by Litehiker » 11 Jul 2017, 20:09

Is Federal American Eagle ammo as reliable as the original FN blue box ammo?

So far the American Eagle ammo I've shot (50 rounds) has functioned well. Seems to have the same ballistics and accuracy.

AE TMJ and SS197SR are both loaded by Fiocchi. Quality can be iffy on both. I've had good luck with AE TMJ, albeit it's slow as fudge..

Yep, I've noticed my American Eagle ammo shoots lower than the FN ammo. Lower = slower. 'Nuff sed!

Are there other small 5.7 x28 ammo makers that produce reliable as well as "speedy" ammo? (as in a bit faster than FN ammo)

During "The Great Ammo Shortage" one custom loader has so many requests for his ammo that he quit taking orders so he could fill his months of backorders. I'll have to GOOGLE him and see if he's still in business.

When I asked about subsonic ammo, I was given the names of Elite Ammunition, Vanguard and one other that I'll have to look up as I can't remember the name. When I find it I'll post the other name. I didn't look at anything other than subsonic on the Vanguard sight but Elite Ammunition had various 5.7x28mm ammunition.

Vangaurd is the company that loads a rip off round of EA's/My T6B round. EA was the first, over 10 years now, we are making our own brass, and bullets.

Right!

Elite is the one "smaller" fabricator of 5.7 x 28 ammo that I trust. And they seem to have about the same velocity as FN.V-Max ammo in most of their loads.

I've seen Youtube tests of FN, AE, and Elite ammo on 3/16 wall square steel tubing fired thru a PS90 SBR. The FN and Elite ammo did pretty well.

Eric, IMO the two good subsonic loads I've used are EA's and R&R Weapon Systems. Although I haven't tested the others :D

Ahhh yes....R&R Weapon Systems was another I heard of. So far I've only purchased EA subsonic for my Five Seven (and a bunch of it so I hope it's as good as I expect it to be). I haven't been able to get to the range but hope to do so this coming weekend (I keep saying that every week but I really am going to make an effort to shoot my FsN suppressed real soon)!!!
