After review, strictly on paper from other reviews, the Streamlight TLR-2 would come out on top. Just for the price compared to the quality received. As far as best product, the Surefire X400 in my opinion wins gold. If best is what your looking for, at double the price, the X400 would be the way to go. The X400 is well built in every way and thats how Surefire likes to build their products. The Viridian X5L is a nice option if you prefer the green laser for use in daylight hours. However, green lasers lose battery life much faster as compared to red lasers. If this can be fixed, Viridian could possibly pose as top light in this category. The green light does seem to be easier to see, especially at longer distances.

All pricing was used from opticsplanet.com. They seemed to be consistently on par with a low price, if wasn't available, found an average low price.

Also keep in mind, I have never had any of these lights in my hands ever. These comments are strictly from other posts from this website, manufacturer's website, and other forums/review sites.

I am pretty sure something like this was never covered on the site. If it has I am sorry and please redirect me to it. I am totally unbiased to any of these lights, although I like getting the best because it's a better chance it will work and work well. If dollar value is high, the best has to be clearly better.

buddy, I like how you are so sure, have you even touched the search function? It's been covered SO many times before. This isn't barf.com or another FsN forum, we're alot different here and do have legitimate answers from people who USE the stuff.

And welcome to the site :)

Thanks for the legitimate answer!

Basically most other topics on the subject just turned into everyone saying what they use. I guess I am looking for why you like the specific light that you have.

Oh, my bad, bpasky! Didn't mean to troll on ya!

Obviously it's my fault. I mean, who am I to question a newbie who makes close-to-universal claims that are completely inaccurate?

Let me get that for you,

here ya go!

there were more links, but, you'll just have to tune in another time! :p

"Basically most other topics on the subject just turned into everyone saying what they use. I guess I am looking for why you like the specific light that you have."

Well, see, I'm thinkin, I guess they use it because the light is

1. bright
2. reliable
3. robust
4. darn thing just works great

There really aren't crazy differences between different mfg.'s. Though some have green lights and other have red lights. During the day, Green is easier to see on non-green surfaces. Red is easier to see on non-red surfaces. Green might not work in some temps.

Hope that helps!! :)

as someone who has also search on this topic on this very forum, I applaud the man for putting together a well-thought out and linked post cataloging the choices. The info might be previously discussed, but that 'n00b' did an admirable job of organizing information in a way that's useful for everybody.

Perhaps its better to encourage this behavior instead of jumping on the guy for being new (and not finding what he was looking for). Just sayin...

Very pertinent point, PGT! Thank you for chiding me. I will be sure to take this as part of my education to become a better FsNizen. :) New term I made up.

I definitely marginalized you, bpasky, and for that I apologize. My main concern was that you were making a statement we see alot of newbies make; that there is "no or almost no information on etc." when all that you have to do is use the search function. I felt that I was not overly critical, just a bit tongue in cheek. Perhaps I need to guard my speech more closely to achieve a less trenchant effect that will appeal to verity and succinctness instead of perceived spite. :cya:

Hope you find what you need, bpasky! I've handled the Viridian on a pistol; didn't shoot it, but I was able to fully commit to its function and effect by having it shone in my eyes during the DAYLIGHT. This blinded me for about 2 minutes cold. Think of what it would do during the night. That's my input on the LIGHT of the Viridian; the laser is incredibly bright, as is the green laser from Lasermax. I've used Lasermax's green and red lasers. :guns:

"search n00b!" is a common post on any forum. As a former moderator on an active car forum, balance was needed for those who truly did attempt to look for info but came up short and those who didn't bother but posted anyways. The old-timers ate both for breakfast without distinguishing between them. Encourage the former, destroy the latter. :P

As for lasers, I chose the LaserMax over the Viridian just for form factor. The cost was the same but the Viridian looks HUGE on the FiveSeven while the LM disappears on it.

Thank you for the apology Blue.

I was actually steering away from the Viridian because of size and light, but that helps what you said about the 2 mins blind in the daytime. A lot of people hype the laser in the reviews and lack to talk about the light. I think I would actually put the Light as a primary and the laser as a secondary.

PGT, how is the light on the LaserMax? Would you prefer the green laser over the red or is it matter of preference?

green is supposedly better. Frankly, the red would serve my purposes well too and be significantly cheaper

This forum is KING of "use the search function". To the point of being ridiculous. Why dont we just catalog all possible topics into an excel spreadsheet, add information as we learn more and shut down the discussion part of the forum? Kind of defeats the purpose. Its one reason I do a lot more reading on this forum than posting, and it has nothing to do with being thin skinned, I can assure you. Its just not worth the hassle trying to figure out who actually responded to your question while sifting through the 37 "use the search function" replies by people who I guess feel they are on another intelligence level b/c they are more familiar with forum etiquette than others. I can assure you everyone on here is a specialist in some area enough to make others feel inadequate were the topic to arise. Sorry for the tantrum, I can just image we run off a ton of new and good people weekly on here, and its not like there is so much discussion going on that we don't need anymore.

We have a wiki for such information. People just haven't contributed to it to consolidate all of the information.

It does seem that some members do jump on the "use the search function" bandwagon when new members come to ask questions, and to that I apologize. If maybe some of them would instead direct their search function posts to help developing the wiki into what it is meant to be for, then we might not run into this as much. **hint hint**

Thank you for your feed back burdy, we do appreciate it and use such criticism to help make this forum a better place for people coming to seek information.

burdy, you're saying we should not have to sift through posts, and simply get spoonfed? I'd have to disagree with you. The search function is there for a reason, I use it, too. It's not just something piled on newbies that come onto the forum. It's not a battle over intelligence quota.

OWWW!!! Fuzzy something just poked me really hard in the side. :( I don't think it's your hinting at me because I'm definitely not qualified to update wiki. I really don't see what the big deal is having to read through 40 posts to find what you want. You use google to find things, so why can't you use search here? I'm perplexed.

access to information isn't the point. easy, organized info is. The search feature on forums doesn't usually work very well. I find things easier/quicker/mobetter by using google's site search.

think about the internet before google. the info was out there...just search! yeah, it didn't work well. dead links, reading ten hits to get the one gem of a thread. Looked at another way...how often do you go to wikipedia to read up on something? I go almost daily, usually linked off a search in google. No, it's not the end-all-be-all of knowledge and can frequently be incorrect but considering how hard it was to gain knowledge a decade ago on the web, these two sites are golden.

Other forums organize "FAQ's" or "threads of note" - a single repository or table of contents from which one can get to other threads. Well organized and kept updated. That's essentially what the wiki intends to do....catalog the knowledge base in an easy to use format.

I don't mind doing it if you don't. It sounds like we need to start somewhere. I'd like to give it a shot as long as everyone is cool with it.

First post is updated. Please let me know what you think. It's a pretty basic format, but sometimes simple is much better than fancy. Should I add a poll for all the different lights w/ laser? We would be able to see the consensus in this category.

As an owner of a TLR-1 and an X5L, I prefer the X5L over the TLR-1/2 series.
Its lighter, and has a green laser instead of a red laser.
The light on the X5L is not as bright as on the streamlights, but is very wide, which may be why it seems a lot dimmer. Definatly bright enough for any indoor environment or under 25 or so yards.

The TLR-1/2 on the other hand easily light stuff up at 50 yards.

As for the Insight, Surefire, Glock...

The glock light is pretty weak all around. Non-LED bulb is a deal breaker.
The Insights are way overpriced and have far inferior specs to the Streamlights.
The Surefire is on par with the Streamlights, but is far more expensive. Only you can justify paying a LOT more to help pay for Surefire's excessive advertising. I prefer to avoid that company.

I look at it this way.
Better looks, far better laser, less weight : X5L
Better light output, far worse laser, worse weight : TLR-2

My 57 sports a Surefire X400. The controls are all accessed with the index finger making it convenient to switch from laser to light to both. The instant on-off pressure switch is activated by the tip of the index finger. The light has rounded corners and little to grab on your cloths and is compact enough to be practical. The price was the only draw back but I bit the bullet and bought it anyway.

Great Post. With some clean up and maybe links to manufacturers and a collection of pics, I'd nominate it for a sticky!

This thread really has me considering a Viridian. I like the angled lines and fit - looks natural on the FiveSeveN. I do agree with the con that it extends lower than the trigger guard, but with a combo I'd say that's expected.

Nice work.

There are pictures of most of these scattered about in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5348&start=0
What's nice is you can see how it looks/fits on an actual FiveSeveN vs yet another Glock.

Well, see, I'm thinkin, I guess they use it because the light is

1. bright
2. reliable
3. robust
4. darn thing just works great

There really aren't crazy differences between different mfg.'s. Though some have green lights and other have red lights. During the day, Green is easier to see on non-green
surfaces. Red is easier to see on non-red surfaces. Green might not work in some temps.

Hope that helps!! :)
Actually, you are wrong. There are no green or red, rail mounted lights, that I'm aware of! There are green lasers and red lasers. Green can be seen at night and in daylight. The red is for low light to dark; However, most red lasers can be easily seen in most indoor lighting situations, providing the ambient light isn't too bright.

owsi26, you haven't seen those colored filter lenses on the lights? :D

On the relevant side, I got to fondle a Viridian a couple of days ago at the indoor range. Green laser was very bright & easy to see. I didn't use the light much, although it does seem pretty bright as viewed from an angle. The laser itself was on a glock & the mounting felt very solid. Buttons were easily reachable.

No idea if the mounting stays solid when firing or has to be tightened up - it was new, they didn't know yet.

my fault, owsi. I think everyone knew I meant laser.

As Rapier says, there are coloured lights. I've used them before. It's just not as common. I think bright blue light at night works quite well.

WOW!!!! I shopped and thought I got a good deal at $170 (LOCAL SHOP SELLS IT FOR $285, SIG WEBSITE FOR $215) for the Sig STL-900. I love mine on the five-seven, it has a wrench to adjust it that fits on the side, has a 130 lumen light (seems brighter), strobe feature and a red laser that works in most outdoor settings and holds zero great. It was mentioned that the buttons are complicated, but it didn't take long to figure it out. It fits great on the 1913 rail and looks good on the long frame and for the money I already spent on the pistol, works great for me

FN currently has a free light offer for the Insight Technology M3 ($120 value) for five-seven purchases between May 1 - July 31, 2010. I'll use this on another pistol when I just want a light.

http://www.fnhusa.com/le/promos/1005light.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I also have the LaserMax ($285) green laser only which I put on my AR-15 and if I just want a laser, it also fits nice on the five-seven.

I just bought a FNP tactical .45 and for $85 (after discount), I will buy another one of these. I figured I was done spending big bucks on lasers, lights, and laser light combo's and that I would just change them out when needed, but for $85, I'll take this one and use it on one of my 8 pistols or put it on my GSG-5 rifle :thumb:

Insight SSL1---been on various weapons and never failed yet--next may well be the Green laser---use LAserGrips on other handguns, but undecided on this particular firearm at moment. Ride a motorcycle and planning to make the 57 my carry gun, but haven't found a IWB holster I can live with yet. Kydex doesn't work for me in TX heat, so am searching for a leather.

I took the LaserMax off my AR-15 and tried it on the Five-Seven. The STL-900L is on sale at BoTach for $85 and at that price I had to get another for the FNP .45 or another gun in the safe.

Regarding the STL-900L, the laser sits behind the lens, correct? Have you ever had issues with the light refracting and giving you sort of a ghost dot? I looked at both the Sig and a knock off and the reviews I read said both had this problem for some people, but not for everyone. If you haven't, please try just the laser on the wall in a dark room and let me know if you notice anything like this, thanks!

With a dirty lens, you will see the ghost dot. Same as if you shine a laser at a dirty window. If its clean, there shouldnt be a problem.

Yes, it does sit behind the lens.
I did have that problem at first, but I cleaned the lens too and adjusted it with the tool and the ghost went away. I have not had the problem since. I think if you run the laser adjustment all the way in, you get it pointing against the side of the lens and you get this effect. I had the same problem with an old Laser Devices, Inc that clips onto the groove under the slide on older models of my H&K USP and Walther P99. This model is laser only and has a lens that covers the laser. When you adjust the windage all the way right, it did the same thing.

Hope that helps, for the money ($170) this was a nice combo, for $85 it is a steal

Now I understand, thanks for clearing that up for me

Looks like the SIG is still in a distant 4th despite the cheaper price. I did a little comparison before I bought and price was a big factor for me once I was satisfied with the main features and I had experience and quality with the Sig accessories. I do see the Surefire (I have a full size flashlight w/ pressure pad on the rail of my AR-15) and Streamlights are very nice and popular. My own research was these are very expensive accesories in general. I recently purchased a LaserMax laser only for mounting on my rail on my AR. I saw them priced at $500-600 and after shopping I got it for $285. All of this stuff can be found cheaper if you Google and spend some time looking. The green lasers tend to be twice as expensive as the red lasers.

That was a great job (bpasky) BTW on the whole comparison and links. If you are shopping for a light/laser combo, you certainly gave a good review with lots of information.

Is there another poll like this for optical mounts for the FNP tactical .45? I would love to see a comparison of the Trijicon, Doctor and others to see what I want to put on mine.

I just got my Sig and Streamlight in today. Build quality on the two seem equal but the battery door latch on the Streamlight was very nice. The Sig puts out a wider light pattern than the Streamlight but not as bright. I did see the ghost laser when I was adjusting the laser for a 7ish yard zero. Once I got the zero, it went away. I was adjusting the elevation high and I think it was hitting the reflector bowl causing the diffraction. Buttons on it are kind of complicated out of the box but with everything else, 5 minutes of playing with it and it is second nature. I dont see why people complain its overly complicated. We will see how the laser holds zero when I can get to the range. Maybe I will put it on the 10mm to see if it will hold up to the recoil.

Yep that's what I found on the ghost thing too, it is aimed to hit the side and I can replicate it by using the tool and running it all the way to one side. I agree on the controls too, at a glance they seem complicated but once you use them they are easy.
I have moved it from the Five-Seven to the Mosiquito and back and now on the FNP tactical. It takes a few seconds to change it slightly and a few shots to true it up and then it holds nice. It seems like 25 yards is where it set best, the FN Five-Seven can reach a little further and out shoot the laser. It fits very snug on the rail and can take the recoil, although the 5-7 has very little recoil. I will be testing it on the .45 and now that I have 2 will probably leave one on each of the FN's, but it is nice to know that I can take it off and put it on another weapon with little trouble. I have owned some more expensive light/laser combo's that were not as easy to change out or that didn't tighten down as nice. The SIG unit is solid, well built and fits well on the length of the rail with no play on it. I have spent more and gotten less. Some of the other units may be slightly better, but I still think this is a steal at under $100 in my mail box

Here is a quick beam shot comparison. I underexposed on purpose to show where the light exactly ends. Excuse the messy floor, we just bought our first house and are still unpacking. All shots are ~8 feet from the wall. Ignore the colors, I left the white balance setting from a different shoot I was doing. The Insight is a warm color like a regular incandesant bulb whereas the Sig and Streamlight are a cooler white.

This is the Insight M3. This is the head tightened all the way down to make the best water tight seal on the head. Here you can see the dark spots I was talking about. It is VERY wide light but not as bright as the other 2. It is hard to see where the edges of the light are in the picture but it does fill the entire wall with dim light. If I dont trade the light, I will be getting the LED head.
Image

This is the Sig STL-900. Light is wider than the TLR-1 but not as bright in the middle. No where near as wide as the Insight though.
Image

This is the Streamlight TLR-1s. It is very bright in the center and has the least width. Again, this is only 8 ft from the wall so it is still plenty wide for around the house.
Image

This is the Inisght M3 with the head loosened to focus the light to get rid of the dead spots but possibly more succeptable to water damage.

Side Armor is the main one that I know of, not sure if you can use for dropleg or not. There maybe more. I think Side Armor will work with;

Surefire X200
Surefire X300
Streamlight TLR-1
Streamlight TLR-2
Insight M3
Insight m6
Insight Procyon

I would take a rocker switch that is placed right in front of the trigger finger over a 3 button layout on the side of the light any day. When SHTF, you don't have time to tell the bad guy, "Hold on let me look at the side of the light here to which button i need to turn on, I can't see which one is the one I need because there is no light."

However at half or a third of the cost, it is a great option, I will give it that. BTW, great job on the comparisons with the light output. We need more stuff like that. :thumb:

The 2 buttons on the rear activate the light (black for on/off, yellow for momentary). The side buttons are for light function (strobe on/off) and laser activation. Therefore, all you need is to press the button that is right in front of the trigger to turn it on. Also, it has a memory so if you turn it off when it is strobing, it is strobing when you turn it on again. Also, to make the sig light strobe is alot easier than the streamlight which requires either a really fast index finger or your left hand.

+1 to what both of you said.

I just received my Sig STL-900L today (I couldn't resist for $85). I'm used to using a TLR-1 so I had the same concern re: paddle vs. push-button. As far as I can tell, because the buttons that turn the light on/off face the trigger finger, they're just about as convenient as a paddle switch however... in that SHTF scenario, turning on the laser or toggling between strobe/solid beam using the buttons on the side is way less-than-intuitive.

Also, I have that secondary laser echo with the Sig and no amount of lens cleaning is making it go away. It's annoying but because it's so much smaller than the big laser dot... for the price, I still think it's a bargain (as long as it holds zero, which I'll report on when I shoot it next).

My TLR-1 is going on my AR57 with a pressure switch on the vertical grip, and as long as the STL-900L holds its zero on the FsN, that's where they will live for now.

I just got my second Sig STL-900L (the one for $85) tonight and I get the ghost right out of the box. Two full turns to the left with the adjusting tool and it goes away. If the beam hits the reflecting surface coming out of the "laser hole" it will refract. Once you work the beam out of the channel it emits from, using the windage or elevation adjustments, it goes away for me twice. Not sure if this helps or it is just the guns I have put this on, both were FN's....so who knows

Thanks, that did work. Sort of...

It does go away, but as soon as I re-zero it - the ghost returns. It needs a friggen tac-exorcism!

I can assure you everyone on here is a specialist in some area enough to make others feel inadequate were the topic to arise. Sorry for the tantrum, I can just image we run off a ton of new and good people weekly on here, and its not like there is so much discussion going on that we don't need anymore.
I think your "tantrum" has merit to it.

The 2 buttons on the rear activate the light (black for on/off, yellow for momentary). The side buttons are for light function (strobe on/off) and laser activation.

Picked up the Sig STL-900L fairly recently. The "secondary laser echo" is there for me, but I didn't notice it once when shooting, so no actual issue there (at least for me).

Ran a couple hundred rounds through it (SS197, so nothing that powerful or exciting), had no problem with it holding zero. I did notice it changes the weight and balance of the gun significantly, FWIW (It felt fine or better shooting, but is certainly significantly heavier.)

Does anyone have any thoughts on potentially taking it apart and rewiring one of the rear buttons to turn on the laser as well? Unfortunately I'm in the middle of a move and haven't found my tiny screwdrivers yet to take a look inside it to see how difficult this might be, but seems like it would solve the only real potential problem with it: that the laser is a tiny button on the side next to other tiny buttons.

I have a TLR2 and a insight procyon. both really angered me because neither will take protected rechargeable CR123 batts. what a joke. $350 in lights and they won't even fit a rechargeable battery? and to top it off, my $20 chineese deal extreme glove box flashlight is much brighter than both, and WILL fit rechargeable batts. so much for USA quality. the LAST streamlight I will ever buy. who wants to fork out tons of cash for batteries when I thought I was paying up front for a quality light to use rechargeables? :furious: :furious: :furious:

I have to mirror your insight, sir.

I play around in night matches, and have seen 2 Streamlights break on FsN's, including my personal copy, such that I resolved to send my Streamlight back to the factory. Another user has broken his Insight light, also.

Apparently the FsN has a stupendous ability to break mounted lights.

Have you ever shot in the dark with those lights? Did they last for you?

broke a streamlight switch, broke an insight battery door (epoxied it back together). so yes and yes.

you don't even want to know.

It begins with cheapo and ends in China.

And continues to be very reliable. Yet much dimmer. But adequate.

I won 1st place last week at the night match with it with my EA tuned pistol.

In fact, my pistol is so awesome now, it doesn't even need the light.

I won first place shooting for a total of 20 seconds in the dark for 3 stages with no lights whatsoever, when my Streamlight broke at last month's match. My EA tuned pistol took all the targets out. I mean, I squeezed the trigger here and there, but that's pretty much it.

Let us know if you figure that one out. I love the Sigs, I got them for $80 each, the sell at my dealer for $285!!!
I agree a back button for the laser would have been better

I am very impressed with the look of the Viridian lasers. It looks like they were made for the FsN. I also noticed from the Viridian site that they are making a special glock version in olive color. Since I'm getting the dark earth FsN model, that doesn't help me much. Is there any chance someone on this fine forum would have a dark earth FsN married to a Viridian AND a camera handy??

My Viridian has operated at every temp here in Fargo. I shot it two weeks ago at -20, no problem. I even had it laying on the bench for about an hour before I turned it on and shot. Only green laser I have ever owned though.

I also have a surefire, and an Insight M6. Both work for the shooting I do. I would not take the Insight into the shite though, I wouldn't take the Viridian either most likely.

From Viridian's website :"The new X5L (Gen 2) will begin shipping in the 2nd quarter - Pre-order with your dealer today!"

From a chat with my local dealer, their quarters match up with calendar quarters (versus an off cycle fiscal quarter), so these bad boys should be hitting the streets in Mid-Late March/early April-ish. I'd imagine they will fly off the shelves like the compact C5L (was on a wait list for one of those until i saw the gen 2 x5l).

Unfortunately my dealer won't put in an order until they start shipping... man, i hate Cali... :wall:

I have a Viridian C5L on my HK P7. It is one hell of an awesome sighting system. The strobe light/solid laser beam mode especially would be a huge advantage in a low light fight. The 100 lumen strobe is totally disorienting, and the green beam gives an unmistakable and BRIGHT aiming cue. The unit is also very compact, with nicely located ambidextrous activation buttons. Two huge thumbs up from me.

Wonder how hard it would be to devise a mount for this light/laser combo from Viridian on the PS90?

I'm thinking just forward of the front hand guard, mount a short weaver/Pict type rail into the stock, and use the two bolts there to secure it. (So it could be removed, and all you would have is a rail shaped hole in the the stock at most, or you could cut it down to be flush with the stock, and have no hole if you did not like the results.)

With a short rail there, any subcompact light/laser combo would mount up just forward of your support hand, so the existing tap buttons would work fine I'd think. The rail can be setup so the light/laser is flush/tight to the stock too, so no gaps. (Mine fit work on the light laser body would be possible, of if you get a unit that has remote pad ability, you could mount a flush switch on the stock so your right thumb could operate the pad(s).

I'm just thinking of ways to get a good built in laser for the PS90, but I'm not sure I like the one from AU.

Also I want a green laser, and not so much a serious light more than something that is not so bright it gives me away completely if used. (Momentary on for both light and laser independent of each other would be best.)

Update: I have a Veridian CL5 on order, and a cheaper Barska Green laser.

The CL5 is for the FSN. But I'm going to see how it would possibly mount up on the PS90. (Had that apart today, and adding the rail is less of a hassle than I'd imagined.)

My idea is simple. (And simple is usually the best when it comes to weapons.)

The stock bolts together. There are two forward bolts just above the front hand guard. These bolts are just under the cast alloy "frame" that holds the barrel, optic and magazine base.

Using a Dado blade, router, or similar, you just need to cut a 1/2 inch gap down the center of the stock. You can do it by taking the stock into halves, and then router out the material 1/4 on both sides.

Now take a standard 1913 Pictatiny rail with no holes in it. Put the stock back together, and measure the width of the gap you just created. Measure where the bolts pass through the new open space there.

Now cut the rail so it's the same size as the material that's gone. (Tight fit is best I'd think, as plastic is somewhat flexible, and compresses too.)

Drill holes in the now cut rail. (Leave the part of the rail that's going to stick out full 1913 width of course, and with the normal cut profile, but the "narrow cut part is now "squared off.")

Check for fit, and get it right. Cut wide, and file to final fit is the plan.

Blue threadlock, and put it into place so the rail sticks out under the barrel/cast alloy part, and infront of the forward hand guard.

Clip on and tighten the light/laser combo of your choice. Operate with your weak hand thumb or index finger. (Most lights/lasers like this are ambidextrious, so no issue there.) Trim the plastic on the light/laser to fit how you want, or trim the PS90 to fit the light/laser as you see fit.

It does not make the platform wider. The weight of this unit is minimal. Battery changes are easy as any clip on setup. Replacement is as easy as it gets.

If it fails, you have all the back up/built in features of the PS90 and FSN.

Got the laser/light in, and I'm impressed.

It's well made, and as in the photo above, nice and tidy but uses a 123 Lithium battery, so should have pretty good life in my experience. (And it is common with a few other lights/lasers I have, so easy to keep fresh spares that I need to carry.)

The green laser is bright, but not as easy to see in day light as I'd hoped. It is visable, but you need to know where to look in bright sunlight. Much better than red in well lit conditions indoors however.

At night, the green is nearly too bright. You really have to watch out, or you can quickly put your own night vision a notch or two down using this laser setup. The light is bright, not too bright however, so I'd say it's a good combination of size, and function.

So far, no issues at all.

Fits the FsN like it was built for it. There are three mounting options included, and I found the one that the unit came installed with fits the best on the FsN. You only use one screw to secure it, but once tight, it's not going anywhere. It can move slightly, but not so much that you lose zero using the pistol however. (And bumped, it returns to zero, but you can reef on it, and twist it out of alighment, but that's true of most plastic stuff, including the frame of the FsN.)

Have not found a holster I like with this unit on the FsN. I'd like a SERPA style, but not sure how the latch would work. The unit is wider than the trigger loop, and that's what the SERPA's lock onto.

I also got a much cheaper Barksa green laser, and it is every bit, if not slightly brighter laser than the Veridian. However, it's much larger, and the entire housing is alloy and brass. The rail mount is nice, and the unit becomes it's own new 1913 rail when you install it, so you could add a light I suppose under it, or on a carbine/rifle, a shorty forward handle would be excellent. (I'm looking at ways to integrate this Barska into my FS2K's stock front grip, and have the ability to mount other stuff to it if I want.)

I like the fact that the battery is a CR123 again, and loaded by unscrewing the laser unit, so you could leave the housing mounted to the weapon, and it should not change zero. (The front cap/laser bottems out on the housing, so it ends up in the same place every time you put it back on in theory.) I will test it out, and report back later.

On the idea for the PS90 rail... Well, looking it over, I want to keep it simple. :) KISS is important. A 1913 rail section with a round solid post on the end, drilled for the two bolts that hold the forward part of the stock in place seems like the best option.

Drill the hole so it bi-sects the two bolts, and then bolt the rail and stock together with the stock hardware for a very secure mount of small tactial lights/lasers just forward of the weak hand guard.

FWIW, I started using Optics Planet but switched to OpticsBestBuy.com because their prices tend to be a tad better. They missed a shipping date one time for me and sent it 2nd day air at no charge (and without me asking for that).

I think all these transactions are kind of a snapshot in time, but I have no complaints about opticsbestbuy.com.

Looks like you 5.7x28 FN pistol shooters highly recommend the http://www.viridiangreenlaser.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; BATTERY POWERED Viridian X5L gen2 green laser / blinding flashlite combo.

GONRA was gonna get one to fool around with,
BUT just noted the
RECHARGEABLE http://www.lasermax.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Genesis green laser.
This doesn’t seem to have the blinding flashlite.
But, RECHARGEABLE sure sounds GREAT to me!

Both products use “5 mW green lasers” so
electrical power demands FOR THE LASER ONLY should be identical.

Bet knowledgeables can speculate on future / practicality of a
RECHARGEABLE laser with specs otherwise same as the highly regarded BATTERY POWERED Viridian X5L gen2 laser / blinding flashlite combo.

Another way of posing the issue would be –
would the appropriate battery system be
small / light weight enough to be practical in this application?

Wouldn’t mind waiting around for this RECHARGEABLE product to appear – IF it really seemed feasible!

Thanx in advance, Laser / Blinding Flashlite / DC Power Pack Experts!

The CL5 has been excellent so far, no need to change the battery, and I've used the laser for about 6 hours now, and light about .5 hour. The fact it uses the very common to my other lights/lasers 123 Lithium battery is a serious plus. (Just stock 3 types of batteries in my safe, N, 123 and 2030 disk type and of course AA and AAA. :))

I picked up a Streamlight LED lamp that is amazing. It's too big for a pistol, but for a PDW or rilfe/carbine, it's just right. Holds a tight spot out to about 100 yards! Up close, on a shotgun, it's a "light" aiming device! LOL Just put the light on the target and you are good to go. They make a rechargable version, but mine uses 3, 123 batteries, and I have yet to replace them. I tend to only use the light for a few seconds at a time, as it destroys your night vision, even from the light reflected back. (I keep it in my car to look up house numbers, and such.. Just open the sun roof, or roll down the window, and you can "spotlight" the house address, or confirm what car/truck you are looking for etc.)

It has replaced my trusty Mag Light for this duty, and is 1/3 the size, if that.

I'm considering the TLR-3 for a Glock 30... but I jus saw a picture of one and theres a noticable GAP between the front of the trigger guard and the light switch... not much thought put into actually making the TLR-3 fit on compact pistols obviously.

Anyone have experience with what fits well on some of the smaller pistols?

Im pretty sure it is because of the Glock rail. Because it isnt a picitinny rail, it would sit against the trigger guard because the slot on a Glock is so far forward. I have seen pictures of someone that added another slot closer to the trigger guard to fix it.

Thanks Jon, Yes the Glock rail is not a Pic, but the rail width is identical to a Pic, it just doesn't have the Pic serations. I'm trying to find a picture of a G30/G29 with a Viridian CL5 on it. The Viridian website says that it fits all Glocks.

I have only used the Streamlight TLR-2 on my Glock 20. It is a very solid setup. The light is blinding bright and focused @ under 15yds. The laser could be more powerful but serves its purpose and holds zero even under the heavy recoil of the 10mm. Great light/laser for the price. Oh and its switchable. You can have light/laser/both....always on or instantaneous.

GONRA wants to get a Viridian X5L as recommended by you experts out there
for my 5.7x28 FN pistol. http://www.OpticsPlanet.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; info specifies a CR2 battery.
Any suggestions (actual experience only please) on
a rechargable CR2 battery / charger combo?
Apparently many CR2 batteries are rechargable, but not all.
Some brands mention "one time use" or "primary" -> NOT RECHARGABLE
but other brands do not specify ANY info that applies to recharging!
Its confusing, so am seeking an
ACTUAL USER EXPERIENCE RECOMMENDATION
from you World Renouned Experts.
THANX!

I've had bad luck with my X5L (Gen 1) so while I like it when it works, it's not reliable enough to keep on a weapon - even after I sent it back to the factory for repairs.

As for the battery, I only use the non-rechargeable & they last a while. I have not tried the rechargeable kind.

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN fix stupid - it's just illegal.
