I recently tested two loads vs. hard barriers, all fired at 10 feet. One factory load and one hand-load, from a 5.7 MkII
First up was a hand-loaded SS190 vs 1/8" steel.
Load is 5.7gr of Longshot at 2180fps.
This load penetrated the steel and dimpled the other side. I managed to recover the bullet fragments and it segmented into three distinct pieces: the aluminum core, the steel tip and the jacket; total recovered weight is 27.6gr.
Next photo is the control load, a factory load, the SS198LF. This lot averages 2095fps from my pistol.
It dimples the steel but does not come close to penetrating.
Finally, both loads against 1/2" aluminum. As you can see, neither load penetrated. The factory FN load left a .11" divot and the hand-loaded SS190 lodged itself into the metal and left a very small bulge on the other side.
