In the state police, there were three handguns we used over the years. Every trooper had to qua;ify out to 50 yards, although the vast majority was in close. Understanding I wish not to offend, may the ramblings of an old man who lives for surf fishing say the new Venutian X-supercatchmo supblimational fish mind melt works no better than my 1950 Sears Roebuck surf rod. The 1911 speaks for itself in the shooting arena, and as many are caught up in the new...

Last FOP mtg there were a couple hundred cops with rooms. They announced housekeeping was instructed to leave and lock any room if they saw a gun. Everybody carried all week. We do this a couple times a year and I never heard of anyone having a gun stolen.

Being the 5.7 forum there is perhaps an affection for the round others may not share. I just never cared for 9mm.

I have the 2.5 Cas and it is sweet. The recoil is not anywhere near what people claim, and with 45 Colt it is a nice carry gun. Have never fired the round in a rifle though.

So I'm an old man--sorry. The very first year they came out I begged Santa (and my beautiful wife purchased) a Browning Stainless Stalker in 7 Mag. Took this baby on several hunts to Maine and tramped through the PA brush to produce plenty of venison stew. Bolts were all wood, and I thought this wou...

My paws are too big. The glock 33 and 27 are the smallest I can go. I have an LCP but she sits in the safe with the Browning 32 because I can't hold it.

SeaDriver is so correct in evaluating the inside the beltway ladder climbing. Law schools actually changed their degree to a JD only because the govt has a higher paygrade mandated when one gets a doctorate. That says it all.

Several years back, a buddy who we met for coffee on midnight patrol was the youngest trooper in NJSP at 20 years of age. He had a NJ issued dept handgun, but to practice had to send mommy, an adult, into the gunshop to buy ammo. In PA we had to be 21 to get hired.

Depends on year. Vanguard was made on the Hoya equipt. in Japan with the same metal and techs by Weatherby for several years quietly while the had a few higher end rifles made elsewhere. For awhile a $1200 Weatherby was identical to a 300 dollar Hoya in every way in common hunting calibers.

Gawdy love, I feel old. Aside from scopes on a plethora of bolt action hunting rifles, everything I have in AR fashion has metal open sights ala Viet Nam. Old habits and all this holographic red dot stuff is something you guys have fun with, but I'd miss the nostalgia.
