Re: Favorite 5.7 reloading powder/load?

The S4 type bullet gives you the best of both worlds: penetration/tumbling and fragmentation. It does way more damage when the jacket separates (which you start to see at velocities >~2300fps or through disruption) than when it maintains its integrity. If you look at tests where the S4 passes throug...

Re: Inconsistent recoil, flash, and ejection

Could have something to do with the sinterfire bullets. I seem to recall needing to use caution crimping them (i avoid it). Also, the shooters grip can affect cycling. I've never bothered tumbling 5.7 cases. Simple green and dish soap followed by a water rinse works great and u don't have to worry a...

Re: Help with powder choices for 55 FMJ

Of those, True Blue, Longshot, HS6 look to be your best choices.

Here's a load for a 50r bullet using VVN105

50gr Combined Technology Silvertip Trim: 1.135" OAL" 1.588" Virgin SS197 brass/primer
7.7gr: 1678fps
7.8gr: 1698fps

Re: Favorite 5.7 reloading powder/load?

~8.2gr HS7, 27gr SS195 bullet, Winchester Small Rifle Primer, OAL 1.585, Trim: 1.135 crimped with modified Lee Factory Crimp Die

My old standby. Good for ~2350fps. You might have trouble locating some HS7 though :D

No primer, neck/shoulder or case failure during entire test and pressures were taken well above 65k psi.

Not even the beginning of a gold ring inside.

Re: New reloader

OK, I'm getting down to bullet decision. Should I go with the Sierra Blitzking Moly 40gr or the Vmax 40gr? The Sierra is pretty cheap in large quantity from PSA. I'm hoping this guy in Salt Lake City gets another dismantle contract and sells off all the pulled 27gr bullets. I passed on a bucket of ...

Anyone know of the top of their head about what the relative burn rate is? Double or single base? Ball or stick? Sorry, Im not too familiar with it. What other cartridges is it good for?

Re: Grant's Loads

Blue Dot is already one of the best for a 28gr bullet. Acc#7 cant be used unless it was extremely compressed. Id say you cant go wrong with Longshot . VVN350 is an excellent all around single base powder. Id stay away from HS6....its really not that great of a powder. Autocomp would be like a slight...
