I have an original AR57 and have the same D shaped case mouth.
I would suspect the case separation would be an ammo issue. Likely, the case was not weak for whatever reason. Maybe @panzermk2 can share his insight.

I checked the buffer on my AR57 (gen2 iirc). It is 3.075 inches. My scale died and I haven't replaced it, but I believe it is in the 4.8 oz range as well. I have used my upper on a lower with a binary trigger without changing the buffer from a standard length H2. I had no function issues with it at ...

I bought a new FNP 45 last weekend at a gun show. It is not tactical or competition. However, it came with night sights (they had them with regular sights as well) and 3 15 round mags.
